New technologies for clean water production
During her PhD studies, Katarzyna Joanna Janowska researched combination of different membrane filtration processes with thermocatalytic perovskite for water purification. Focus was on contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) since conventional physicochemical and biological wastewater plants (WWTPs) are not effective in removal of all CECs, which are present at low concentration levels of ng/L to μg/L. Katarzyna Joanna Janowska studied effect of integration of microfiltration, nanofiltration and membrane distillation with cerium-doped strontium ferrate perovskite thermocatalyst and ozone on the degradation of micropollutants such as Bisphenol A, Ibuprofen and Caffeine.
The obtained results can be used to improve water treatment technologies with focus on effective retention and degradation of contaminants of emerging concern, resulting in production of clean feed and permeate, higher clarification of treated wastewater and lower toxicity.
The PhD study was completed at Department of Chemistry and Bioscience, Center for Membrane Technology, Aalborg University.
