Membrane distillation and crystallization

Membrane distillation and crystallization

Our research group focuses on addressing resource scarcity by utilizing membrane processes to recover 1) valuable minerals and 2) high-purity water from waste streams and brine. We are involved in all stages of the membrane processes. First, we develop new membranes using additive manufacturing (3D printing). Secondly, we investigate process parameters in mainly membrane distillation, membrane crystallization, and membrane percrystallization processes to optimize the purity of permeate water and crystallized minerals. The parameters cover pressure, temperature, renewable energy sources. Lastly, we analyze the minerals and water to assess their usability in different sectors after recovery.
We work closely with national and international academic institutions and industrial partners to bring our knowledge into play.
Key topics cover:
- Mineral recovery such as Li and Mg
- 3D printing of novel polymeric membranes
- Zero-liquid discharge
