Environmental Technology

Research in the Environmental Technology Group is focused on mitigation of emerging contaminants and greenhouse gases. Photochemical and biological processes are applied for mitigation, and chemical and bioanalytical tools are used to characterize the transformation processes.
Activities in the Environmental Technology Group are characterized by frequent combination of chemical and biological methods. Current research includes UV mediated oxidation of man-made chemicals, biological and photochemical methane oxidation (Methane Scrubber), and disinfection using UV light. Our UV technology include UV-A, UV-B, UV-C and vacuum UV treatment often in combination with advanced oxidation processes. Bioassays are often employed to study the environmental toxicity and sustainability of new chemicals and treatment processes.
